Can You Get the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi With No Credit?

No, you should not expect to get approved for the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi if you have no credit history. Based on my 25 years of experience working with Citibank credit cards, this is one of the more difficult Citi cards to qualify for, and you should have excellent credit before considering an application. Citi evaluates your overall credit profile, and applicants without an established credit history are unlikely to meet the card's approval requirements. You can try to check for prequalification before submitting a formal application, but if you have no credit history, your chances are slim to none.

Why Can't You Get the Costco Citi Card With No Credit?

The Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi is intended for applicants with strong credit profiles. If you have never established credit, you do not have the credit history needed to demonstrate a track record of managing credit accounts. In my experience, you should have excellent credit before trying to qualify for this card.

Citi does not publish a specific minimum credit score that guarantees approval. However, the card is not one I would recommend for someone just starting to build credit. You must also have an active Costco membership, although membership alone does not guarantee approval.

Can You Check Prequalification for the Costco Citi Card?

You can try Citi's prequalification process to see whether you may qualify for the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi. Checking prequalification uses a soft inquiry and does not affect your credit score. However, prequalification does not guarantee final approval.

If you have no credit history, I would not expect you to qualify. Your chances are slim to none, but you can review the process on our Costco credit card pre-approval page if you want to check your eligibility.

Bottom Line

No, the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi is not a realistic option if you have no credit history. Based on my 25 years of experience with Citibank credit cards, you should have excellent credit to pursue this card. You can try prequalification, but do not count on approval without an established, strong credit profile.

FICO® Credit Scores

A FICO® Score is a proprietary credit score created by the Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO). About 90% of top U.S. lenders use it to make lending decisions.

FICO® Score Ranges:

  • Exceptional: 800–850
  • Very Good: 740–799
  • Good: 670–739
  • Fair: 580–669
  • Poor: 300–579

FICO categorizes scores as Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Exceptional.

What is a Credit Score?

A credit score is a three-digit number (300–850) predicting your creditworthiness. Lenders use it to evaluate risk and determine rates and terms for credit.

Why it matters: A higher score can help you qualify for loans and lower interest rates. A lower score can lead to higher borrowing costs or application denials.
