Freedom Gold Card Reviews: $750 Horizon Outlet Credit Line

The Freedom Gold Card provides a $750 unsecured merchandise credit line for people who may have difficulty qualifying for traditional credit, but it is not a conventional credit card that can be used anywhere. The current Freedom Gold agreement allows the credit line to be used exclusively at TheHorizonOutlet.com, does not require a credit-bureau check or employment verification, and currently lists no annual, monthly, or activation fee. The account does not report payment activity to the credit bureaus, and you need a separate U.S. credit or debit card to pay shipping on Horizon Outlet purchases. For someone who has been unable to qualify for other credit and needs merchandise available through Horizon Outlet, that can make the $750 credit line useful. For someone who needs a card that can be used anywhere or wants to build credit, the limitations are significant.

What Is the Freedom Gold Card?

Despite its name, Freedom Gold is not a traditional Visa or Mastercard. The current agreement describes Freedom Gold as a line of credit that can be used exclusively at TheHorizonOutlet.com.

That means the $750 credit line cannot be used at Walmart, Amazon, a grocery store, a gas station, a restaurant, or another retailer. It is specifically tied to merchandise purchased through Horizon Outlet.

This distinction is especially important if you are searching for a $750 credit card because you have been denied elsewhere. A $750 Freedom Gold credit line does not give you $750 of general-purpose purchasing power. It gives you access to credit for eligible merchandise available through one particular online store.

How Does the $750 Freedom Gold Credit Line Work?

The current Freedom Gold offer provides a $750 unsecured merchandise credit line. The current agreement does not require a down payment for eligible purchases made through Horizon Outlet.

After making a purchase, you receive monthly billing and must make at least the minimum payment required under the agreement. The current agreement states that the minimum monthly payment is $25 or the entire balance if the balance is less than $25.

You can also pay the balance in full at any time. The account must remain in good standing to continue making purchases and receiving additional account benefits.

The practical value of the $750 line therefore depends on what you actually need to purchase. If Horizon Outlet has merchandise you need and you cannot qualify for conventional credit, the account may provide purchasing flexibility that would otherwise be unavailable to you.

Who Might Actually Need Freedom Gold?

Freedom Gold is most relevant to someone who has limited alternatives. If you already qualify for a traditional unsecured credit card with a similar credit limit, a store-only credit line generally gives you much less flexibility.

The situation can be different for someone with damaged credit, no established credit history, or a recent credit problem who has been unable to qualify for conventional credit.

For example, suppose you need clothing, household merchandise, electronics, toys, or another item available through Horizon Outlet, but you do not have enough cash to make the entire purchase immediately and have been unable to obtain a traditional credit card. A $750 merchandise credit line could give you another way to make that purchase and repay the balance over time.

That does not mean Freedom Gold is appropriate for everyone with bad credit. The important question is whether you have a legitimate reason to use credit specifically for merchandise available through Horizon Outlet.

Does Freedom Gold Require a Credit Check?

The current Freedom Gold agreement states that there are no credit-bureau checks and no employment requirements. It also states that there are no restrictions based on a previous bankruptcy.

That does not mean every application is automatically approved. The agreement says Horizon may be unable to open an account if it cannot verify your identity or if you do not meet its ability-to-pay requirements. It also reserves the right to reject an application.

The current offer requires applicants to be at least 18 years old and a legal U.S. resident. The application also requires accurate identity and application information.

Does Freedom Gold Build Your Credit?

No. This is one of the most important things to understand before applying.

The current Freedom Gold agreement states that the account does not report to any credit bureau. That means making your payments on time does not establish a positive payment history on your Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion credit reports.

Freedom Gold should therefore be viewed as a merchandise credit option rather than a credit-building account. If your primary goal is to rebuild your credit history, you need to look for a product that reports payment activity to the credit bureaus.

What Does Freedom Gold Cost?

The current Freedom Gold agreement is important because older information about this product can show a very different fee structure.

The current agreement lists a $0 annual membership fee, $0 monthly membership fee, and $0 activation fee. The current pricing summary also lists no interest charge.

That is substantially different from older descriptions of Freedom Gold and other Horizon products that included recurring membership fees. If you are researching Freedom Gold, make sure you are looking at the current offer and agreement rather than assuming an older review describes what a new applicant receives today.

Why Do Older Freedom Gold Reviews Mention Fees?

If you search for Freedom Gold Card reviews, you may find websites and older customer discussions describing monthly fees that do not match the current agreement.

That information should not simply be ignored, because it helps explain why reviews of Freedom Gold can appear to contradict one another. The Horizon family of merchandise credit products has changed over time, and older versions of these accounts had different fee structures.

The current Freedom Gold agreement dated June 29, 2026, lists no annual membership fee, no monthly membership fee, and no activation fee. It also states that the account does not report to the credit bureaus.

For that reason, when comparing Freedom Gold reviews, pay attention to the date of the information and the terms associated with the offer being discussed. A review describing an older version of the account may not accurately describe the account available to a new applicant today.

Freedom Gold Can Only Be Used at Horizon Outlet

The store-only restriction is the biggest limitation of Freedom Gold.

The $750 credit line can only be used at TheHorizonOutlet.com.

You cannot use the account at a local store, restaurant, gas station, grocery store, or another online retailer. It is not a general-purpose credit card.

This is why the $750 credit limit should not be viewed the same way as a $750 limit on a conventional credit card. With a traditional card, the credit line can provide purchasing flexibility almost anywhere the card network is accepted. With Freedom Gold, the usefulness of the credit line depends on the merchandise available through Horizon Outlet.

If you want to compare Freedom Gold with the other merchandise credit options available through Horizon Outlet, you can also see our Horizon Outlet card comparison.

What Can You Buy With Freedom Gold?

Horizon Outlet offers merchandise in categories that can include clothing, home goods, electronics, toys, appliances, and other products. The selection can change, so it is worth looking at the current store before deciding whether the credit line is useful for your situation.

This is an important part of evaluating Freedom Gold that can get lost when the focus is simply on the advertised $750 credit limit.

If Horizon Outlet has $200 worth of merchandise that you actually need, having access to a $750 line could be useful even if you never use the entire limit. If you cannot find anything you want or need through the store, however, the $750 limit has considerably less practical value.

You Need Another Payment Method for Shipping

There is another limitation that should be understood before applying.

The Freedom Gold credit line cannot be used to pay shipping charges. The current agreement requires a valid and active U.S. credit card or debit card to pay shipping on Horizon Outlet purchases.

Shipping charges must be paid before merchandise is shipped, and the agreement states that shipping charges are nonrefundable.

Therefore, Freedom Gold does not completely eliminate the need for another payment method. You may be able to use the Freedom Gold credit line for the merchandise itself, but you still need access to a separate U.S. credit or debit card for the shipping charge.

The Current Freedom Gold Account Includes a $100 Gift Card

The current agreement also includes a $100 gift card for use at TheHorizonOutlet.com. The gift card expires six months after the account is created and cannot be used to pay shipping charges.

This is an additional benefit of the current offer, but it does not change the basic nature of the account. Both the gift card and the $750 credit line are restricted to Horizon Outlet purchases.

What Do Freedom Gold Customers Complain About?

Customer feedback about Freedom Gold and other Horizon merchandise credit products has included complaints about the limited selection of merchandise, shipping costs, account restrictions, and confusion about how the credit line can be used.

One recurring issue in older customer feedback is that some people expected a product called a "card" to work like a conventional credit card and were disappointed when they discovered that the account could only be used at Horizon Outlet.

That criticism is worth considering, but the store-only restriction is not a hidden feature of the current Freedom Gold account. The $750 credit line is specifically tied to Horizon Outlet purchases.

There are also individual customer complaints involving Horizon account management and payment-related issues. Those complaints represent individual experiences and should not be treated as proof that every Freedom Gold customer will have the same experience.

Freedom Gold Is Not a Credit-Building Card

There are two very different reasons someone might be interested in Freedom Gold.

The first is wanting to establish or rebuild credit. Freedom Gold does not accomplish that because the account does not report to the credit bureaus.

The second is simply needing access to merchandise credit when conventional credit is unavailable. In that situation, the lack of credit-bureau reporting may not be the primary concern because the purpose of the account is purchasing access rather than credit building.

Understanding that distinction is important. Freedom Gold is designed around access to merchandise credit, not around improving your credit score.

Freedom Gold Has Changed Over Time

Some of the negative information you may encounter while researching Freedom Gold relates to older Horizon products and older fee structures. That historical information is worth understanding, but it should not automatically be treated as a description of the current Freedom Gold account.

In 2024, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed a lawsuit against Reliant Holdings, doing business as Horizon Card Services, concerning older Horizon products and alleged marketing and fee practices. Horizon-branded merchandise credit products were among the products discussed in that case.

However, that lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in April 2025. The current Freedom Gold agreement also has a substantially different fee structure from some of the older Horizon products described in historical complaints.

For that reason, it is important to separate historical information about older Horizon products from the current Freedom Gold terms when deciding whether this account makes sense for you.

Freedom Gold Card Pros and Cons

Potential advantages:

  • $750 unsecured merchandise credit line
  • No traditional credit-bureau check
  • No employment requirement
  • No restriction based on previous bankruptcy
  • No annual membership fee under the current agreement
  • No monthly membership fee under the current agreement
  • No activation fee
  • No down payment required for eligible purchases
  • Current offer includes a $100 Horizon Outlet gift card
  • May provide purchasing power to someone who cannot qualify for traditional credit

Important disadvantages:

  • The $750 credit line can only be used at TheHorizonOutlet.com
  • It is not a Visa, Mastercard, or general-purpose debit card
  • Payments are not reported to the credit bureaus
  • Shipping cannot be paid with the Freedom Gold credit line
  • You need a separate U.S. credit or debit card for shipping
  • Shipping charges are nonrefundable
  • The value of the credit line depends on the merchandise available through Horizon Outlet
  • It is not a credit-building product

Is the Freedom Gold Card Worth Considering?

If you already qualify for a traditional credit card, I would generally prefer the flexibility of a card that can be used at many different retailers. A $750 credit line restricted to one online store does not provide the same purchasing flexibility.

But that is not necessarily the person Freedom Gold is trying to help.

If you have damaged credit or no established credit history, have been unable to qualify for conventional credit, and need to purchase merchandise that is available through Horizon Outlet, the Freedom Gold credit line may provide an alternative when other credit options are unavailable.

The key is to understand the purpose of the account before applying. Freedom Gold is a restricted merchandise credit line, not a conventional credit card and not a credit-building account.

If you need purchasing power specifically for merchandise available through Horizon Outlet, Freedom Gold may be worth considering. If you need a card that can be used anywhere or want an account that reports your payments to the credit bureaus, you should look at other options.

What is a Credit Score?

A credit score is a three-digit number (300–850) predicting your creditworthiness. Lenders use it to evaluate risk and determine rates and terms for credit.

Why it matters: A higher score can help you qualify for loans and lower interest rates. A lower score can lead to higher borrowing costs or application denials.
