Honest Loans Personal Loans Review

Honest Loans is an online loan-connection service that helps consumers find potential lenders offering personal and installment loans from $200 to $50,000. Honest Loans is not a lender and does not make loan decisions. Instead, you submit one online request that may be shared with multiple lenders and financial partners. A loan result may be available within minutes, and if you are approved, funds may be deposited as soon as the next business day. Honest Loans says it does not perform a credit check itself, although the lenders in its network may, and there is no fee to submit a loan request. Applicants generally must be at least 18, have a regular source of income of at least $800 per month, be a U.S. resident and have a bank account. New York residents are not eligible to use the service. In this Honest Loans review, we explain how the service works, how much you may be able to borrow, how quickly you may receive funds, what happens to your information and what you should know before submitting a request.

What Is Honest Loans?

Honest Loans is a lead-generation and loan-connection service, not a direct lender. The company says it works with a network of lenders and third-party financial networks so borrowers can submit one online request rather than visiting multiple lender websites.

Honest Loans says its service is free to consumers because it receives compensation from lenders and network partners for connecting prospective borrowers with them.

How Do Honest Loans Personal Loans Work?

The process starts with a short online form. Honest Loans says the form takes less than five minutes to complete. Your information is then submitted to lenders and other financial partners that may be able to offer you a loan.

If a lender is found, you can review the lender's loan terms, including the interest rate and fees, before deciding whether to accept the offer. Honest Loans does not make the lending decision.

Who Can Use Honest Loans?

To submit a loan request through Honest Loans, you must be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. resident, and have employment or a regular source of income of at least $800 per month. Honest Loans says all types of income may be considered, including self-employment, disability, benefits and gig-work income. You will also need a bank account if you receive a loan because the lender may deposit the funds directly into your account.

Honest Loans is not available to residents of New York, and its service and participating lenders are not available in every state. Meeting these basic requirements does not guarantee approval because the lender ultimately decides whether to approve your application and what terms to offer.

How Much Can I Borrow With Honest Loans?

Honest Loans currently says its network offers loan amounts ranging from $200 to $50,000. However, not every lender offers loans up to $50,000. The amount you can actually borrow depends on the lender's policies, your creditworthiness and other factors.

Honest Loans also says that loan amounts and APRs can vary by lender and by state.

How Fast Can Honest Loans Get You Money?

Honest Loans says approved borrowers may receive funds as soon as the next business day. The company says a loan result may be available within minutes, but the actual time it takes to receive money depends on the lender and the circumstances of the loan.

That means Honest Loans can provide a relatively fast way to look for a loan, but same-day or next-business-day funding is not guaranteed.

Does Honest Loans Check Your Credit?

Honest Loans says it does not perform the credit check itself, but the lenders and financial partners it connects you with may check your credit. Those lenders use their own underwriting criteria to determine whether to offer you a loan and what terms to provide.

Honest Loans says borrowers with different credit profiles can use its service, but approval and the interest rate are ultimately determined by the lender.

What Does Honest Loans Cost?

There is no fee to submit a loan request through Honest Loans. If you receive a loan offer, however, the lender may charge interest and other fees. Honest Loans says the lender will provide the applicable rate, fees and loan terms before you accept the loan.

Because Honest Loans is not the lender, there is no single Honest Loans APR. Compare the APR, fees, monthly payment and total repayment amount before accepting any loan offer.

What Happens to the Information I Submit?

This is an important part of using Honest Loans. The company says your information may be shared with multiple lenders, financial partners and third-party networks in an effort to find a potential provider.

Its lead-generation disclosure also explains that Honest Loans can act as both a lead generator and lead aggregator, and that leads may be sold to purchasers that can include lenders and other financial-service companies. If no lender is found, the site says you may be presented with offers for other services, such as debt relief or debt consolidation.

For that reason, read the site's privacy and lead-generation disclosures before submitting your personal information so you understand how your information may be used and shared.

Is Honest Loans a Lender?

No. Honest Loans clearly states that it is not a lender, does not make loan decisions and does not broker loans. Its role is to connect consumers with potential lenders and other financial-service providers.

Our Honest Loans Review

Honest Loans can be useful for borrowers who want to submit one online request and see whether a participating lender may be willing to offer them a personal loan. The service offers a convenient online application, considers borrowers with different credit profiles, and says loans through its network can range up to $50,000 with possible funding as soon as the next business day.

The most important thing to understand is that you are not applying for a loan from Honest Loans itself. You are submitting your information to be connected with lenders and other financial partners. The lender you are matched with determines whether you qualify, the amount you can borrow, your APR, fees and repayment terms.

If you receive an offer, read the complete lender agreement carefully before accepting it. You are under no obligation to accept an offer simply because you submitted your information through Honest Loans.

FICO® Credit Scores

A FICO® Score is a proprietary credit score created by the Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO). About 90% of top U.S. lenders use it to make lending decisions.

FICO® Score Ranges:

  • Exceptional: 800–850
  • Very Good: 740–799
  • Good: 670–739
  • Fair: 580–669
  • Poor: 300–579

FICO categorizes scores as Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Exceptional.

What is a Credit Score?

A credit score is a three-digit number (300–850) predicting your creditworthiness. Lenders use it to evaluate risk and determine rates and terms for credit.

Why it matters: A higher score can help you qualify for loans and lower interest rates. A lower score can lead to higher borrowing costs or application denials.
