Imagine Visa Credit Card Reviews, Customer Complaints

The most recent Imagine® Visa® Credit Card reviews we examined are overwhelmingly negative, with customers reporting complaints about account closures, fees, payment problems, customer service, card delivery, account access, and declined transactions. Some applicants also report being denied after receiving a prequalified offer, while others say they were denied despite having credit scores above 700. There are positive reviews as well, but the recent complaints reveal several recurring problems that are worth knowing about before applying for the card.

What Are Customers Complaining About?

The most recent Imagine® Visa® reviews we examined included complaints about several recurring problems. These are consumer reports, so they describe what individual cardholders say happened to them and should not be treated as proof that every customer will have the same experience.

Among the most common complaints were:

  • Accounts being closed with little or no warning
  • Annual, monthly, late, and other fees
  • Problems involving payments and payment processing
  • Difficulty dealing with customer service
  • Problems accessing the app or online account
  • Cards allegedly not arriving after approval
  • Transactions being declined or cards being suspended
  • Applicants being denied after being prequalified
  • Applicants reporting denials despite having higher credit scores

Account Closures Are a Major Complaint

Several recent cardholders reported that their Imagine accounts were closed even though they believed they had been making their payments as required.

On August 20, 2026, a reviewer said Imagine closed the account without notifying them beforehand. On June 25, 2026, another reviewer said the account was shut down after about six months even though they said they had been paying the balance in full and making multiple payments each month.

Other 2026 reviews included similar complaints. A reviewer on May 4, 2026 said the account was closed despite claiming they had never missed a payment, while another reviewer on May 2, 2026 said the account was closed after being four days past due and over the credit limit.

On April 30, 2026, another cardholder said the account was canceled despite making on-time payments and was later told the reason was "unexpected activity." On April 8, 2026, a reviewer complained that the account was canceled after making payments every two weeks.

These complaints are especially notable because several consumers describe account closures occurring after they had been actively making payments or using the card.

Customers Also Complain About Fees

Fees are another recurring theme in the Imagine reviews.

On August 21, 2026, a reviewer complained about being charged what they described as excessive fees after using the card only twice and spending less than $200.

On June 16, 2026, a reviewer said they were told there was no annual fee, but then received a statement showing a $99 annual fee and a $2 paper statement charge. The reviewer said they considered this misleading.

On May 7, 2026, a cardholder complained that the second year became a "nightmare," with monthly and other fees and a $60 monthly payment requirement.

Older reviews show similar complaints. On September 5, 2024, a reviewer said they were charged an annual fee and a monthly fee while also dealing with a payment dispute. On February 9, 2025, a verified customer complained about the yearly fee and monthly maintenance fee despite having a 768 credit score.

There are also complaints about late fees. On July 8, 2026, a reviewer said they were charged a late fee the day after the billing date. Another reviewer on February 26, 2026 complained about receiving a $30 late fee after making a payment after the 5 p.m. cutoff.

Payment Problems Appear in Multiple Reviews

Payment processing is another recurring subject in the complaints we reviewed.

On June 25, 2026, one cardholder said they made seven to nine payments per month because they were using the card for rental car expenses, paid more than $2,000 per month, and still had the account shut down.

On April 8, 2026, another reviewer said their card was canceled because they made payments every two weeks.

Older complaints describe different payment problems. A reviewer on July 6, 2025 said Imagine allegedly charged their bank account twice for payments and then charged fees after the payments were returned. On November 23, 2025, another reviewer said ACH withdrawals were returned even though they claimed to have more than $2,000 in their account.

There are also complaints about payment timing. On November 17, 2025, a reviewer said they missed a payment by one day, received a payment confirmation, and then continued receiving collection calls and emails while the account was suspended.

Earlier, on January 3, 2024, a verified customer said a payment made two weeks early was credited and then reversed. The reviewer said Imagine initially gave one explanation and later gave another explanation for the reversal.

Customer Service and App Problems

Customer service complaints appear frequently in the Imagine reviews.

On September 5, 2026, a reviewer gave Imagine one star and said a customer service representative hung up twice when the reviewer asked to speak with a supervisor.

Other 2026 complaints included a reviewer on May 15 who said they had difficulty getting help with a dispute and another on March 1 who complained about being unable to get through to the application department to complete an application.

The app and online account also appear repeatedly in older complaints. On August 10, 2025, one reviewer said the app was frequently down or not working correctly and strongly criticized customer service. On July 10, 2025, another reviewer said the app was always down and complained that they could not pay by phone.

On June 3, 2025, a verified customer said they could not access the app, could not reset their username or password, and could not reach customer service to pay the card.

These complaints are not proof that every Imagine customer experiences problems with the app or customer service, but the same themes appear in reviews from different customers and different dates.

Some Customers Say Their Cards Never Arrived

Card delivery is another complaint that appears more than once.

On June 10, 2026, a reviewer said the card had not arrived after three weeks and complained about the response from customer service before ultimately closing the account.

On May 10, 2025, a verified customer said three months had passed without receiving the card even though they were told it had supposedly been sent three times.

On October 30, 2024, another reviewer said they were approved on October 7 but still had not received the card by October 30. After receiving different answers about when the card had been mailed, the reviewer said a representative eventually sent another card by express shipping.

And on July 23, 2024, a reviewer said they had waited more than 45 days for the card while receiving monthly bills even though they did not have the card.

Some Cardholders Report Cards Being Declined or Suspended

There are also numerous complaints from cardholders who say their cards were declined or suspended after they had already been approved.

On April 29, 2024, a reviewer said the card initially worked but purchases at iTunes and Amazon were later declined because the card had supposedly been locked for security reasons.

On February 16, 2024, another reviewer said a $14 grocery purchase was followed by a security suspension. The reviewer said they verified the transactions with Imagine but the card continued to be declined and the account was eventually being shut down.

On January 22, 2024, another reviewer said transactions at Apple and Amazon continued to be declined even after repeatedly verifying the purchases.

These are individual customer reports, but the repeated complaints about suspended cards and declined transactions are worth knowing about if you are considering the card.

Some Applicants Say They Were Denied After Being Prequalified

One of the most important complaints involves the difference between being prequalified and actually being approved.

On April 17, 2026, a reviewer said they received a letter saying they were prequalified but were later denied because of what they were told was a low credit score and lack of real estate. The reviewer also complained that the application resulted in another inquiry on their credit report.

This is particularly important because Imagine itself explains that prequalification involves a soft inquiry, but says that accepting an offer results in a hard inquiry and that final approval is not guaranteed. Imagine also states that additional verification may be required.

We wrote a separate article examining this issue in greater detail:

Higher Credit Scores Do Not Guarantee Approval

The complaints are not limited to people with poor credit.

On August 17, 2025, a reviewer said they had a credit score above 700 but were still denied by Imagine. The reviewer contrasted the denial with an approval from another lender for a $6,000 account.

Another reviewer, on February 9, 2025, complained about the Imagine card despite reporting a credit score of 768.

These are individual reports and do not tell us how Imagine evaluates every applicant. However, they demonstrate why consumers should not assume that having a particular credit score guarantees approval.

There Are Positive Imagine Reviews Too

Not every customer review is negative.

On February 15, 2025, a verified customer gave Imagine a positive review and said the card had worked as promised. The reviewer said the fees were high but that available credit increased after making payments, the card had worked in different states and locations, and the credit limit had increased regularly. The customer said the card had been useful while rebuilding credit.

That positive review is worth including because customer experiences clearly are not identical. The purpose of looking at the complaints is not to suggest that every Imagine cardholder will have the same experience, but to show the types of problems that some customers have reported.

Is the Imagine Visa Credit Card Worth Considering?

The Imagine® Visa® Credit Card may appeal to consumers who are rebuilding credit and are looking for a card without a security deposit. However, the recent customer complaints we reviewed raise several issues that deserve consideration before applying.

The most notable patterns involve account closures, fees, payment problems, customer service, card delivery, account access, declined transactions, and applications that did not result in approval despite prequalification.

If you are considering Imagine because you received a prequalified offer, I would recommend reading our detailed article about the potential problems with applying before you accept the offer:

Consider the Ollo Everyday Rewards Mastercard as an Alternative

If you are looking for another credit card option instead of applying for Imagine, you may also want to check whether you prequalify for the Ollo Everyday Rewards Mastercard. Ollo credit cards are issued by Merrick Bank.

Checking another option before accepting an Imagine offer gives you an opportunity to compare your choices rather than automatically proceeding with the first prequalified offer you receive.

FICO® Credit Scores

A FICO® Score is a proprietary credit score created by the Fair Isaac Corporation (FICO). About 90% of top U.S. lenders use it to make lending decisions.

FICO® Score Ranges:

  • Exceptional: 800–850
  • Very Good: 740–799
  • Good: 670–739
  • Fair: 580–669
  • Poor: 300–579

FICO categorizes scores as Poor, Fair, Good, Very Good, and Exceptional.

What is a Credit Score?

A credit score is a three-digit number (300–850) predicting your creditworthiness. Lenders use it to evaluate risk and determine rates and terms for credit.

Why it matters: A higher score can help you qualify for loans and lower interest rates. A lower score can lead to higher borrowing costs or application denials.

FICO® Credit Score Facts

Key Characteristics:
  • Three-Digit Number: Summarizes your credit risk.
  • Range: 300–850; higher scores = lower risk.
  • Data Source: Uses your credit reports from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.
  • Industry Standard: Lenders rely on FICO for mortgages, auto loans, and credit cards.

Note: Credit scores reflect your creditworthiness but do not guarantee approval for any credit product.
